Resource Connection topic of the week: Fathers

June 8, 2009

Each Monday, we’ll provide a list of sources for a new search topic, using the Council’s Resource Connection, a clearinghouse of online educational resources that includes a searchable catalog of primary sources, images, videos, student activities, classroom assessments, and lesson plans.

With Father’s Day just around the corner, here are two timely resources. The National Endowment for the Humanities has a lesson plan about the history of America’s father/son presidents (first the Adamses, and then the Bushes). This lesson plan explores the relationship the sons had with their fathers that might have made them prime candidates to become presidents themselves.

Another great resource is the Indianapolis Public Library’s compilation of Father’s Day resources. It includes links to websites about Father’s Day and book’s that are available for children about the father/child relationship.
